MERROW ANAM - A WORLD OF HER OWN
Merrow Anam began with a feeling Anna Horton had carried with her for as long as she could remember: a fascination with embroidery, hand-drawn prints, colour, knitting and crochet.
After eight years working within Sydney’s fashion industry, Anna realised that she could rarely find clothing in Australia that genuinely reflected her own aesthetic. In October 2023, she began imagining a brand that could bring that creative world to life — romantic, optimistic and nostalgic, but always grounded in meaning and intention.
The result was Merrow Anam: an Australian label devoted to creating charming, meaningful pieces designed not simply to be worn, but to become personal treasures.
ANNA & BEAU
Behind Merrow Anam are wife-and-husband team Anna and Beau. Anna leads the creative side of the brand, designing its collections and shaping the visual world around them, while Beau oversees the online and operational side of the business.
The couple developed the brand while living in the United Kingdom, far from their family, friends and support network in Australia. For more than a year before launching, they managed almost every part of the process themselves — from designing the garments and building the website to creating the packaging and organising the shipping logistics.
Merrow Anam officially launched in February 2025. What began as one of the greatest challenges of their relationship ultimately became one of its greatest strengths, bringing them closer and creating a partnership capable of navigating both the creative and practical realities of building a brand.
Since then, their pieces have found homes across Australia, New Zealand, Europe, the United Kingdom and the United States.
DESIGNED TO BE TREASURED
Meaning and detail sit at the heart of every Merrow Anam collection. Rather than designing around rapidly changing trends, Anna works slowly and intuitively, allowing each story and garment the time it needs to develop.
Collections are produced in small quantities and shaped by memories, people, places, artworks and vintage discoveries. Custom embroidery, crochet and hand-drawn prints appear throughout the brand’s designs, rewarding a closer look and revealing the considered details hidden within each piece.
The Chippy Wildflower story, for example, was inspired by Anna’s time living in the English Cotswolds, combining its storybook cottages and wildflower fields with the warmth of her Australian coastal upbringing. The Beau story explores timeless romance and everlasting love through vintage-inspired embroidery and handwritten details.
For Merrow Anam, sustainability begins with this idea of longevity: creating garments with enough quality, character and emotional value to be loved for many years.
CRAFTED WITH CARE
Merrow Anam works with female-owned factories in India certified by Fairtrade, GOTS and SEDEX. Many of the people producing its garments are skilled artisans who contribute their knowledge of traditional embroidery, crochet and textile craftsmanship to the collections.
For the Ivy Crochet story, the brand also partnered with Projecthrive, a women’s empowerment initiative employing rural artisans to produce handcrafted pieces while supporting wider social and environmental impact.
Natural fibres remain central to the brand’s fabric choices, particularly linen and cotton, alongside ongoing experimentation with ramie and hemp. Materials are selected for their quality, longevity and lower environmental impact.
This consideration continues through to the packaging. Garments arrive from the makers protected in biodegradable bags and customer orders are prepared using fully recyclable boxes and biodegradable shipping satchels, avoiding conventional plastic packaging.
Looking ahead, Anna and Beau hope to introduce Merrow Anam to more people who recognise the value of thoughtful details and slower creation. Their ambition is not simply to grow a clothing label, but to continue building a complete creative world — one their customers can feel connected to, become immersed in and treasure over time.
